ACCOUNT & DATA
Delete your account. Keep control.
Use the in-app deletion control or request account deletion from the web.
Delete your MDL account and associated personal data. You can start deletion directly inside the app or request help through this page. Account deletion is different from the automatic inactivity-retention schedule.
Delete in the MDL app
Open Metal Detecting Log → Account Details → Delete account and follow the confirmation steps shown in the app. This is the preferred route because it confirms the request from your signed-in account.
Request deletion from the web
If you cannot access the app, email privacy@metaldetectinglog.co.uk from the email address associated with your MDL account. Use the subject MDL Account Deletion Request. We may need to verify that you control the account before acting on the request. Do not send your password, recovery codes or unnecessary identity documents.
What is deleted
Following a valid deletion request, MDL will delete or anonymise personal data associated with the account as appropriate, including private profile/account records and private user content, subject to the limited exceptions described below. Deletion of the MDL account is intended to remove access to the account rather than merely deactivate it.
Shared operational history
Some records can form part of a shared operational history involving a landowner, estate, organiser or other member. Where another person still reasonably relies on that history, MDL may retain only the minimum information necessary in a form intended to be genuinely anonymised so that it no longer identifies the deleted user.
Limited retention
We may retain limited information where necessary to comply with law, resolve a dispute, establish or defend legal claims, or protect the service against fraud and security abuse. Where retention is required, the information will not be kept longer than necessary for that purpose.
Inactive accounts are separate
The automatic inactivity schedule is different from a manual deletion request. MDL may warn an inactive account after approximately 11 months, deactivate it after 12 months and begin a final 90-day retention period. A manual deletion request is handled separately and is not required to wait for the inactivity schedule.
